How to read this project

Arizona school rankings with source-data context

AZschoolrankings.com organizes public Arizona Department of Education and NCES school-level data into one searchable view. The goal is to make state-reported high school achievement data easier to inspect while keeping important caveats visible next to the ranking itself.

What the score measures

The achievement score summarizes three-year school-level proficiency-band results for ACT English Language Arts, ACT Mathematics, and AzSCI Science when enough usable subject data is available. Higher proficiency bands receive more credit than lower bands, and the resulting subject measures are standardized for statewide comparison.

What it does not measure

A ranking is not a complete measure of school quality. It does not capture course offerings, arts, athletics, safety, student support, transportation, special education fit, school culture, or whether a school is the right match for a particular student.

Why N/A appears

Public assessment files suppress some small or sensitive cells. Suppressed values are shown as unavailable rather than treated as zero. Schools with very small tested counts can still appear in the list, but they are marked N/A and excluded from percentile calculations.

Why school context matters

District, charter, online, alternative, magnet, and selective-admissions schools can operate under different enrollment models. The site keeps those schools visible and labels the context so users can compare like with like when that distinction matters.

Current release: data year 2025. Source matching, public reporting, and methodology notes are documented so users can check the evidence behind the summary.

AZschoolrankings.com is an ongoing independent research project using public ADE and NCES sources. Rankings are informational summaries under the published methodology and are not official Arizona school accountability ratings.
